Speakers at the rally and forum will also address these topics:
--Self Determination for the Middle East
--End Militarism
--Money for Jobs and Health Care
--Protect Human and Civil Rights

The forum speakers will be PSU sociology professor Veronica Dujon, Lewis and Clark College economics professor Martin Hart-Landsberg, and executive director of the national Bill of Rights Defense Committee Shahid Buttar.

Tabling takes place at the forum, and Portland BPF will be there as an endorser.

October 15 has also been picked as a day of national action by the United National Antiwar campaign ( The themes of economy and war are reflected by many attending the "Occupy Wall Street" events in Portland and around the nation.

Sharing the Dharma: 8th Annual Buddhist Festival in the Park


Main Pavilion

  • Workshop 12:05 pm: Mindfulness in Daily Life by Peggy Lindquist, Portland Community of Mindful Living, Joyful Refuge Sangha.
Three workshops will be occurring from 12:05 pm to 1:00 pm.  Each is designed to allow people to drop in, so all can attend all three.

Children's Pavilion
  • 11:00 am: Scavenger Hunt with prizes, coloring, and simple craft projects available throughout the day
  • 12:05 pm: Workshop: Chanting with drumming: "Namu Myoho Renge Kyo" offered by Jason Litts of Vancouver Nichiren Sangha
  • 1:00 pm: Storytime with Jody Shintai Dungay, Dharma Rain Zen Center 
  • 2:15 pm: All Beings Blessings Ceremony (includes blessings for people and pets)
  • 3:00 pm: Storytime with Heidi Enji Hoogstra, Dharma Rain Zen Center
  • 3:40 pm: Free prize drawing
