Two Events in March

We have two public events coming up this month, and everyone associated with Buddhist Peace Fellowship and Soulforce (a partnership of Don’t Shoot Portland and Buddhist Peace Fellowship) is invited to attend and encourage others to attend. There is no need to be a member of BPF to participate in these events, but if you bring people who have not had meditation instruction, please be sure they understand that we will be in silence.

We will hold a half-hour meditation in Director Park from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Participants should wear blue and meet at Director Park (SW Taylor and SW Park). The purpose of this event is to create peace where we are and to shift the public energy to a spirit of loving kindness by meditating on the phrase from the Buddhist Metta tradition, “May all beings be safe.”

The second event is an expression of silent solidarity with a vigil held by the group called Justice for Keaton Otis, on March 12 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at NE 6th and NE Halsey. At this vigil, participants may hold candles (real or battery-operated). Participants should wear blue and meet at 5:45 p.m. at NE Clackamas and NE 6th (a block away). Anyone arriving after 5:45 p.m. should go directly to the vigil. JoAnn Hardesty will preside and welcomes our participation. Background information on this event is here.
